Match Report

15th January 2000 - Colne 0 - 6 Warrington Town

A report kindly provided by Harry:

Town started this game in an attacking frame of mind, the big surprise being that it took 24 minutes to open our account.

After numerous chances were spurned, Neil Morgan took the Ball down the left flank to the goal line and from what appeared an impossible angle slotted the ball past the helpless Colne keeper. On 40 minutes Morgan again took a defence-splitting pass from Ged Bushell, subbing for the injured Tickle, in his stride and beat the keeper with a ferocious drive. Half time came with Town peppering the Colne goal but failing to convert numerous chances.

On 52 minutes Holden got on the score sheet after good approach work by the Town midfielders. Mark Ashton was next to figure with a fierce 20 yard drive just six minutes later. By now Town were using the game as shooting practice, unfortunately missing more than converting but it was no surprise to see Dave Pick put in Town's 5th on the stroke of 75 minutes. Neil McCormack was more likely to pick up frost bite or chill blanes in Town's goal than the ball, so much was Town's dominance. Ged Bushell crowned his best display for Town by scoring Town's 6th goal with ten minutes left on the clock.

Altogether this was a very workmanlike performance by Town marred only by the potentially serious injury to the inspirational midfielder Dave Tickle.
