Moment of the match
7th November 1998 - Warrington Town 3 - 1 Ossett Albion [aet]
Thanks to Gerry at the club for these match details. I couldn't go to this match.
Today's game at Cantilever Park was against Ossett Albion in the first round of the F.A. Vase competition. After a slightly disappointing first 15 minutes Town fell one behind when the Ossett Albion Forward snuck in from the Right hand side and slotted home the first goal. However Town stepped up the pace for the rest of the first half and were unlucky to go in at half time still trailing, one goal down. The second half saw a much more positive and encouraging performance from Town and everything was going their way. After increasing pressure on the Ossett goal towards the end, Terry Nestor scored from long distance seconds before the full time whistle blew. Extra time now faced the tired players. During the extra time period, Town continued to overwhelm Ossett Albion and Damien Whitehead, keeping in with his fabulous recent form, put Town 2-1 ahead. Ossett became frustrated and right at the end, Kevin Tyrell was brought down in the box and was rightly awarded a penalty, which he converted convincingly. This was a good victory for Town who now progress into the second round of this competition.
