Squire's Gate Shut Town out - from the Warrington Guardian
Warrington Town 0 Squires Gate 1
THERE was little to shout about in this dour North Western Trains League Division Two
clash at Cantiever Park on Saturday. Town rarely troubled a Squires Gate side that has
lost only one league game so far this season. It was a game of few chances with the
Blackpool side only troubling Town's stand-in goalkeeper Christian Stiriopulos twice on
top of the match winning penalty strike. They scored after 26 minutes when Town skipper
Chris Hunt brought down Richard Burgess and Steve Denny fired home the spot kick.
A rare opportunity fell to teen strike ace Damien Whitehead 10 minutes later. He found
himself one on one with Squires 'keeper Mark Brooks but as Whitehead cued up his shot
defender Darren Jones caught up and poked the ball to safety. The closest Town came to an
equaliser was after 88 minutes. Defender Terry Nestor volleyed through a crowded box. It
appeared to be heading towards the roof of the net but scrambling Jones managed to palm
the ball over the bar.
