Town Win

FOLLOWING two straight heavy defeats by UniBond League opposition Warrington were boosted by a North Western Trains League win away to Ashton. But they made life difficult for themselves by going close to squandering an impressive 4-1 lead.
Phil Cooney capitalised on a goalkeeping eror to put the home side in front after five minutes. But creative midfielder Terry Nestor helped Warrington on to the scoresheet. Robbie Preidt drove in an equaliser from 20 yards after meeting his cross, and Nestor's free kick was powerfully headed home by Chris Lee.
Tyrrell also found the target twice inside six minutes after the interval but in the final quarter of the match Thompson's hesitancy allowed Steve Ellerby's shot to squirm out of his grasp and slip over the line.
Warrington: Thompson, Pick, Blair, Callaghan, Tickle, L. Holden (Tague: 54 minutes); Nestor, Tyrrell (McDonald: 85); Bushell, Preidt, Lee. Sub not used: Harris.
